Rainbow trout
Waukewan Lake

For Thanksgiving we rented a condo at Weirs Beach in Laconia, NH. The Weirs is quiet in November, but some local attractions like Santa's Village, and Funspot are open. According to Guinness World Records Funspot is the largest arcade in the world.

The fishing rules here, especially this time of year, are complicated, but very important. I find people who fish and hunt care about and understand the value of conservation.

Waters in New Hampshire are categorized as General Rules Waters, Lake Trout and Salmon Lakes, Trout Ponds, Fly Fishing Only Ponds, and Wild Trout Ponds.

At this time of year I cannot fish Trout Ponds, Fly Fishing Only Ponds, and Wild Trout Ponds. I cannot take trout, salmon, brookies, browns, rainbows, and whitefish from Lake Trout and Salmon Lakes, like Lake Winnipesaukee, but I can take pickerel, pike, largies and smallies, carp, perch, crappie, sunfish, and horned pout.

Plus there are water body specific rules, like for example I cannot fish Winnipesaukee at Weirs Channel from October 1 through March 31 where the water doesn't normally freeze in winter, and daily bag and length limits based on species apply.

Fish I can take on General Rule Waters are pickerel, pike, largies and smallies, brookies, browns, rainbows, carp, perch, crappie, sunfish, and horned pout.
