Dan's Tackle Box

Duck Pond, Hopkinton, MA, 4/24/2017

Today I decide to take my kayak to an unfamiliar fishing spot hoping to find a new bass honey hole.

Duck Pond, in Hopkinton State Park, is within the same Sudbury River watershed as nearby Indian Brook, which is the brook impounded in the 1890s to create the Hopkinton Reservoir.

The pond is stained and murky. I was using a classic bass catching lure, a rubber worm, but did not catch any bass, and instead caught numerous small pickerel. If you like pickerel stew come here. I got the distinct feeling that if I put on a Zoom Super Fluke I would be fighting with some large pickerel, but I didn't prove that out because I had my fun and decided to leave.

There are trails that run from the pond to the Hopkinton Reservoir.

On Saddle Hill Road, at the entrance to Duck Pond Trail, a small dirt pull off fits a few cars. Alternatively, you can park at the boat ramp off Rafferty Street and walk the trails to the pond.
