Fishing with the Addicts, Wachusett Reservoir, MA, 10/26/2015

I stopped at Cabela's on the way. The fellas at Cabela's headquarters are probably trying to figure out why they keep selling out of 1 ounce gold Kastmasters at their Berlin store.

Today I met up with some of my 'Facebook friends', who I had never actually met in real life until now, Johnny, Zach, and Nick, also known as the Wachusett Reservoir Addicts. Now I consider them friends in real life too. They are fishing technicians and are doing a great job at gaining a large following. Somehow I felt like I was with people who were soon to become famous, like the Elvises of the reservoir. They are like minded guys who want to help people catch fish and experience a magical place, the Wachusett Reservoir. It is hard for me to explain why I think it magical there. The best magic is the type you cannot explain.

There's always the chance of catching the fish of a lifetime, the loons, herons, bald eagles, deer, and other wildlife, clean fresh air, first rate hiking trails, geocaching, eye catching foliage, the ambient buzz in the absense of all other sound, how right when you leave you want to go back even though it's often skunk city for many including myself, miles of connected shoreline fishing, interesting characters, getting your kids out of their virtual existence, the healthy feeling you experience for days after going there, no bosses, meeting people, sharing stories, the challenge, and good times with friends and family.

We told all kinds of tales about bears, bait shops, and booty. When the sun hit the trees every cast turned more deliberate and serious. Johnny caught a rare, and camera shy salmon that slithered off the shoreline rocks and into the water before the rest of us could get there with our cameras. About that time the loons started calling and Zach imitated a loon wail, I did a loon tremolo, and we all busted out laughing when next Johnny made a crow call to confuse the poor loons to all tarnation.

Thanks for all the great fishing tips!

Good times.
