Dan's Tackle Box

Muddy River, Boston, MA

The Muddy River flows through the Fens, a park designed by Frederick Olmsted in the late 19th century in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, and into the Charles River. It holds huge carp that I have seen schooling and attempted to catch near the Boylston Street bridge. Corn is what I used. Do not eat the fish from here as the river sediment is full with heavy metals. Carp seem to survive just fine though. In the daytime it is a beautiful and relatively safe park where at worst I got hounded for handouts with regularity, but at night be aware because some of our close friends, on the way to meet us, were held up at gunpoint in the park, and I have experienced beligerent homeless on numerous occasions.
