Dan's Tackle Box

Harlem Meer, Central Park, NY, 9/11/2014

I did not catch anything in a rushed attempt at a small lake in Central Park, NY called Harlem Meer. Meer means lake I learned. The water was stained green from algae more than I think I have ever seen. Supposedly there are a lot of fish in here, possibly including the infamous northern snakehead fish that can travel and survive on land for days, and reproduces quickly in big numbers. Park Department signs around the meer state not to release this fish, but instead call NY non-emergency services at 311.

There are 3 bodies of water in the park where fishing is allowed. Those are Harlem Meer, Central Park Lake, and Central Park Pond. They are all catch and release only, and hook barbs are not allowed.

I bought a 1 day NY fishing license online for $10 as required by the state if you are 16 or older, sanded down the barb on my hook, and set out for the meer with a telescopic rod in my pack.
