The streak officially ended the first week in November, but not due to lack of trying. It started May 24, was interrupted the week of June 21 by a skunking while striper fishing on Cape Cod Canal, and restarted the following week, continuing until November. That is 18 consecutive weeks of catching fish, which would have been 23 weeks if I did not get blanked that week in June. Fishing can be like that.
My unrealistic goal was to catch a fish every week for 52 weeks straight, which would have been marathon-like in New England. In the end I fished as often as I could. The plan was to fish the rivers just before the lakes froze over, after which time I would switch to ice fishing. I bought some Gulp! Alive! 1" micro baits to test out on my fly rod because downsizing bait, in theory, would be more effective in cold temperatures, but I never got to use them. Weather and time were against me.
